Thomas Hylland Eriksen is a professor of social anthropology at the University of Oslo and president of the European Association of Social Anthropologists. He has published extensively on the social and cultural dynamics of ethnically complex societies. Eriksen is currently the principal investigator on the project Overheating: The Three Crises of Globalisation, which is funded by the European Research Council. His books, which include Small Places, Large Issues; Ethnicity and Nationalism; Fredrik Barth: An Intellectual Biography; and, most recently, Overheating: An Anthropology of Accelerated Change, have been translated into more than 30 languages. He also maintains a blog.
